Although all our activities may be thought of as worship, our worship services most closely fit this term. We provide a number of types, including the following:

  • Holy Eucharist - This involves sharing wine and bread, symbolizing Christ's body and blood, along with a sermon, readings, hymns and prayers. The presence of a priest is required. This service type is sometimes called Communion.

  • Morning Prayer - This is a simplified worship service with no eucharist, but with hymns, readings, prayers and a brief presentation. It can be led by lay people.

  • Circle Service - This is a service held in the St Peter's hall, with the participants seated in a circle. It includes hymns, readings and prayers, along with discussion of the readings by participants (optional participation). It may be led by a priest and include eucharist, or by lay people without eucharist.

  • Meditation services - This is a service form used at St Christopher's. It is led by a lay person.

  • Taizé services - This lay-led service form is also used at St Christopher's. It uses ecumenical music and worship based on those used by the Taizé Community in France.

  • Special occasion services - Special services are held for events such as Christmas and Easter, or for sacraments such as Baptism. The service may include choral presentations, or may include special formats, such as Carols and Lessons near Christmas.

The type of service being provided each week is listed in the island newsletter (Pender Post on Pender Island and The Scribbler on Saturna). You may also inquire via an email to the Parish Office (admin@pendersaturnaanglican.ca) or check the signboard in front of each church.
